Involving young people in MERU’s work
We consider children and young people to be at the heart of our organisation and value their ideas and opinions. In 2002 we sought to involve them in MERU in a more formal way. The Young People’s Board was set up so that our users could have direct input into the organisation.
The YPB is now well established as a group of eight young people with a variety of disabilities. They meet to share ideas and experiences with MERU - in order to help other children and young people in similar situations. An integral part of the MERU team, the YPB gives us invaluable advice and contributes ideas to numerous MERU projects for children, as well as being involved in and assisting with fundraising, communications and procedures.
The YPB represents children and young people within MERU, and represents MERU to donors, professionals and our young clients. They ensure that the views of young disabled people are taken into account in all that MERU does.
