London Ambulance Service to fundraise for MERU!
The London Ambulance Service has chosen MERU as its Chief Executive’s Charity for the next two years. MERU was just one of an initial list of 60 excellent causes, but the service’s staff voted it as the clear winner.
MERU was nominated by Ben and Samantha Laws, who both work for the London Ambulance Service. Samantha described her “tears of joy” at the news of MERU’s success in the vote. The charity is currently making equipment for their son Ewan, who has cerebral palsy. Ben and Ewan are taking part in a fundraising triathlon together in 2010.
The London Ambulance Service is offering 20 places in the London Marathon to its staff, and all the runners are being asked to fundraise for MERU. There will also be numerous fundraising events and initiatives at the service’s offices and ambulance stations. Staff have also been signing up to ‘Pennies From Heaven’, a scheme which donates the pennies from their monthly pay automatically to MERU (see www.penniesfromheaven.co.uk for more information).
Peter Bradley, Chief Executive of the London Ambulance Service, called on his staff to help make “the biggest impact possible on the work of this fantastic charity.”
Meanwhile, Susan Brumpton, MERU Chief Executive, thanked the service’s staff for their votes: “We are a small charity,” she said. “Support from such a high-profile organisation is invaluable.”
