Lifestyle assistance
We design, develop and manufacture a huge range of different tailor-made items for our young clients. These include special seating, ergonomic desks, learning and leisure toys and mobility aids. We are also sometimes able to adapt commercially obtained items to make them suitable for a particular child to use.
How does the service work?
Each child is directly involved in the design of their own specialised solution. Their abilities, frustrations, requirements and wishes are identified through a process of multidisciplinary assessment. We then make one or more trial versions, incorporating the young person’s feedback at each stage. Our aim is to make a truly tailored solution that is functional, durable, safe and as attractive as possible.
The result is equipment that makes life easier, more comfortable, more enjoyable and more inclusive for children with disabilities and those involved in their care and development.
Some examples of how we have helped:
A special ‘supermarket trolley’ that enables a mother to take her two disabled sons shopping. The trolley clips to the back of their double buggy and shopping can be put into it.
Specially designed steps that enable a young girl with restricted growth to use school toilets and basins independently and without assistance.
A sloping writing table for a young girl with a disabling neck condition. Made from iridescent purple aluminium, it provides comfort when writing at school and at home – and is a cool style statement too!
A padded bath liner for a young man with Tourette’s syndrome. His powerful and uncontrollable physical ‘tics’ make him at risk from injury on the hard sides of the family bath.
An adaptation to the controls of a toy powered trike that allows a young boy with short limbs to ride it in safety.
